SIR - Christmas is a unique time of year, packed with visions of ‘picture-perfect’ families and happy times. These expectations can result in a great deal of pressure for families, especially those in the military.
SSAFA’s research recently highlighted that three quarters of people in the Armed Forces find the Christmas period difficult. So much so, 71 per cent said it would be altogether ‘simpler’ and more ‘enjoyable’ if spent at work. A further one in five said they will have no one to celebrate Christmas with this year.
READER LETTER: Thanks for your Poppy Appeal support
So, this Christmas, spare a moment of thought for our Armed Forces and others that find the festive period a challenging time of year. Extend some festive cheer to fellow neighbours, reconnect with old friends, or consider donating the gift of time, or money, to charity.
