AS construction gets underway on Bradford’s first sixth form college, New College Bradford has revealed it has already received 1,000 applications from prospective students.

Year 11 students from more than 40 secondary schools across the district and further afield have applied for a place at the college, which will open in Nelson Street in the city centre in September 2019.

The five-storey, purpose built centre, will have a capacity of 1,200 when it is full, but in its first year it is only expecting to recruit roughly half that number.

Stuart Nash, principal designate, said: “We’re delighted, we believe this interest is because of the wide range of subjects we offer.

“Our new campus, our ‘outstanding’ track record, and the young adult environment New College will bring, a very different experience to a school sixth form.

“With 1,000 applications already there’s a good chance we could be oversubscribed. We’ll naturally give priority places to students that do meet the deadline so it’s best to apply sooner rather than later.”

The official deadline for applications is Friday, February 22, although students can continue to apply after that date.
