AN MP has demanded the Prime Minister set out exactly how much money the UK would have to pay the European Union if it left without a deal.

Shipley MP Philip Davies (Con) said Theresa May has changed her mind over how much if anything the UK would pay out, and urged her to detail her legal financial advice.

Speaking in Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday Mr Davies said: “The Prime Minister originally said if we left the EU without a deal we would not pay them any money, she more recently said if we leave without a deal we would have to pay them some money.

"The Prime Minister must have taken some legal advice on this issue as no British Prime Minister would commit billions of pounds of British taxpayers’ money without finding out what our strict legal financial liability is."

“Given that can she set out exactly what the legal advice is on how much money we would have to give the EU if we left without a deal, upon which sections of the EU treaties those financial liabilities stem from, and how much she would give over to the EU without a deal.”

Mr Davies said both Parliament and the EU needed to know. He added that if she did not have the information to hand, she could write to him "with the answers to those specific questions”.

The question came after reports the Cabinet are preparing for a no-deal Brexit.

Mrs May said: “I do not have the answers to all of those questions straight to hand and I will indeed write to him.”
