A MAN who attacked three others with a broken bottle outside a Bolton town centre bar faces a lengthy prison sentence.

Portuguese-born Jose-maria Alves-Semedo-Junior lashed out with the bottle outside the ROC bar on Bradshawgate, leaving a doorman Ben Shorrock with a gashed arm and two other men with serious facial and neck injuries on the night of October 20.

At Bolton Crown Court he pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to Mr Shorrock, causing intentional grievous bodily harm to Cory Schofield and Ryan Spencer and having an offensive weapon.

Colin Buckle, defending, told the court that Alves-Semedo-Junior, of Mountain Street, Worsley, had launched his attack after being surrounded by others and fearing he was going to be assaulted himself.

“His defence was excessive to say the least,” said Mr Buckle.

The court heard that the prosecution accepts that there was an element of provocation on the part of Mr Schofield, but that Mr Spencer was passing by and ended up getting attacked.

Alves-Semedo-Junior, who stood in the dock next to an interpreter, was remanded in custody until his sentencing hearing on January 18.

Probation reports will be produced in an attempt to assess the danger he poses to the public.

Judge Timothy Stead said: “A custodial sentence is inevitable, it seems to me.”
