West Yorkshire Police are warning residents to be on their guard against a scam.
It involves a phone call in which the would-be victim is warned they could be arrested over a tax fraud case against their name.
To prevent an arrest warrant being issued, the call receiver is told to press 1 on their phone, which police say they should not do.
Pc Rachel Storey, of West Yorkshire Police, tweeted: “HMRC SCAM ALERT‼️‼️⚠️ “If you receive a phone call stating “you have a tax fraud case against your name and to press 1 otherwise a warrant will be issued for your arrest” DO NOT PRESS 1 IMMEDIATELY TERMINATE THE CALL. It is a SCAM.”
