Motorists heading into and out of Bradford on the M62 this morning faced long delays thanks to technical gremlins that have snarled up the motorway in both directions around Chain Bar.
A fault with the smart motorway system, which manages lane closures and variable speed limits, caused chaos eastbound between junctions 26 and 27, with tailbacks as far back as junction 23 for Huddersfield.
This also caused knock-on effects on the Chain Bar roundabout and the M62 westbound carriageway, with long queues on the exit sliproad at junction 26.
One driver told the T&A he had spent over an hour travelling westbound from junction 27 to 26, adding that it was the second time this month he had encountered problems on this stretch of road first thing in the morning.
