PEOPLE needing to have a serious clear out after Christmas can use Bradford Council’s Household Waste Recycling centres which are open over most of the holiday.

The centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day but they will be open every other day. The opening times are on the Council’s website.

Changes to the domestic bin collection days have been made. If your bin was due to be emptied on Christmas Day, it will be emptied earlier on Saturday, December 22.

If your collection day was due to be on Boxing Day, it will be collected on the following Saturday, December 29.

People whose bin was due to be collected on New Year’s Day, will be collected on Saturday, January 5. Scheduled collections on all other days remain unchanged.

Remember to plot the bin collection changes in your calendar before the festivities begin. Bin hangers are being placed on the bins where the household is affected to remind residents.

There are no garden waste collections between now and 2 January 2019.

Coun Sarah Ferriby, Executive Member for Health People and Places, said: "We hope everyone has a great time but we want to remind them to keep recycling.

“The amount of waste generated can jump by as much as one-third during the festive period so it’s really important to recycle as much as possible."

Much of the extra waste over the festive period can be recycled via the grey kerbside recycling bin, such as paper, magazines, glass and plastic bottles, tins, cans, cardboard, cards and wrapping paper.

Many other items can be recycled using a variety of Bradford Council's recycling services. For example, Christmas trees can be disposed of at Household Waste Recycling Centres or in the brown garden waste bin if they subscribe to the service.
