A LEADING local supermarket chain is launching another fruit and veg scheme to prevent unneeded waste.

Morrisons is launching a one kilogram "Too Good to Waste" box this week which will contain a mix of fruit, veg, and salad for £1.

The boxes, made up of products that are past their shelf life but still perfectly good to eat, will be sold in every one of the supermarket chain's stores.

Each product making its way into a box will have been "condition checked" by a Morrisons greengrocer to ensure that they are still of good eating quality.

The boxes will be available on the greengrocery aisle and could be filled with any of the supermarket's 75 varieties of fruit, 80 sorts of vegetables and 50 types of salad.

This is the latest scheme in a campaign of tackling waste by Morrisons.

Last week the supermarket launched a "Free Fruit For Kids" initiative across all its store, where children in a store can pick some fruit from a box at the shop's entrance.

Morrisons has also donated over four million unsold food items to local community groups to date.
