Stars Wars fell to earth with a bang in 1983 as disappointed film fans were turned away from a Bradford cinema’s movie marathon.
Only a handful of youngsters queueing outside the Odeon in Prince’s Way were able to get in to see the six and a-half-hour one-off showing of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
About 70 had to be turned away as the “House Full” sign went up. Almost all the 467 seats had been booked in advance.
One family from Great Horton who had ventured out as a treat, said: “It’s disappointing, but we’ll go across to the ABC to watch Superman, instead.”
