CHRISTMAS cheer is coming to Baildon next week with a festive lunch for isolated elderly people.

Lucy Stock held a similar lunch on Christmas Day last year to combat loneliness among the elderly in Baildon.

This year the free three-course meal is being held on Monday, December 17, at the Halfway House in Baildon, and so far 33 local people are due to attend.

Miss Stock said: "Christmas can be a very lonely time for the elderly. Whilst many of us are out celebrating the festive season with friends and family, there are many out there who have nobody and sit alone, watching time tick by. No dinner. No presents. No-one to even wish them happy Christmas.

"We want to help to stop this.

"We have organised our second charity Christmas meal after last year's success. As well as a pick up and drop off service, a three course Christmas dinner, drinks and gifts we give those who attend the opportunity to meet some others in the same boat, get in the festive season and bring a smile to their faces."

She added that they had worked with Age UK, Hale and local care homes to identify those in need.

Local business have donated money and raffle prizes, and the meal itself has been funded by Shipley MP Philip Davies.
