A WET evening failed to dampen the enjoyment of residents watching Wibsey Christmas lights switch-on which included a performance by Bradford singer Bradley Johnson, who has appeared on BBC One’s ‘Let it Shine’ show.

Children from local schools performed Christmas carols accompanied by brass players from Wibsey Salvation Army.

Wibsey Library hosted children's face painting by Bradford Youth Service staff and volunteers at the event which took place on December 7

Volunteer organisers, Wibsey Events Group, supported by Bradford Council’s Neighbourhood Service, are already working towards a bigger Christmas lights display for next year, by planning a fundraising concert in March, featuring local talent including vintage vocalist Kitty LaMare.

Edna Smith, chair of Wibsey Events Group, said:” This is only the third year we’ve organised a switch-on event and it gets better each time. Next year we hope to buy more lights to cover more of the village and we’d love to get more people involved with making this happen through fundraising and donations.”

The video was produced free of charge for Wibsey by Oliver Burton, of Aerial Republic, which has an office in the high street.
