GUISELEY suffered their second successive cup exit as they lost 2-1 at home to Lancaster City in their FA Trophy third qualifying round replay last night.

Having bowed out of the FA Cup second round in their televised 2-1 defeat at home to Fleetwood last time out, they were hoping to progress in another knockout competition.

But they were unable to do so as Lancaster bagged a tie at home to Blyth Spartans in the next round on Saturday.

Guiseley had taken the lead after just nine minutes when Rowan Liburd converted at the far post after good work by Kaine Felix and Lewis Walters.

But the Evo-Stik League Premier Division visitors equalised on 21 minutes through Matthew Blinkhorn to make the interval score 1-1.

Steve Williams gave Lancaster the lead after 71 minutes following a defensive mix-up and they held on to their advantage.

It was also a bad night for Silsden, who slumped to a 5-0 defeat at high-flying Congleton in the North West Counties League Premier Division.

Congleton had been eight points above the Cobbydalers in second place with three games in hand before the match and it proved a tough night for Danny Forrest’s team.

Two goals within four minutes midway through the first half put the hosts in control as Mini Adegbenro and Saul Henderson found the net.

The Cobbydalers started the second half well but it needed a stunning save from keeper Callum Jakovlevs to keep them in the game.

However, the hosts did extend their lead on 68 minutes when Dan Cope converted from the penalty spot.

Then late goals from Tom Schofield and Henderson, with his second, completed a convincing win for Congleton.
