A farm-labourer has been banned from driving for a year after being caught drug-driving.

Matthew John Barber, of Slade Villas, St Davids Road, Haverfordwest, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving while over the controlled drug limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, December 11.

Abul Hussain, prosecuting, told the court that police stopped Barber’s Isuzu on Great North Road, Milford Haven, on September 29.

The farm-labourer was arrested after failing a road-side test.

Richard Griffiths, defending, said Barber, 26, was taken back to his car by officers and allowed to drive after being dealt with at the police station.

He added that Barber had taken cocaine two days before he was stopped, and the second substance found in his sample was a derivative of the drug.

“The cocaine had gone through his system and taken a different form, which shows the time it was taken before driving,”

Magistrates fined Barber £350 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £35 surcharge.

He was banned from driving for 12 months.
