The leader of the local Conservative group cracked open a bottle of beer during a full Council meeting and poured it into a Labour mug to toast former Bradford Council leader Ian Greenwood, who died last month.
Councillor John Pennington, who leads the Tory group on Bradford Council, was among councillors from all parties who paid tribute to the political stalwart at tonight's meeting.
Councillors are currently sitting in the first full Council meeting since Cllr Greenwood's passing, and members observed a minute's silence in his memory.
Coun Pennington's gesture was met by applause from fellow councillors.
Coun Greenwood, who died at the age of 68 after a short illness, has been described as "one of Bradford's finest public servants."
He had a career in local politics spanning four decades and was twice leader of the council, and represented Little Horton ward as a Labour councillor from 1995 to 2012. He returned to the Council this year to represent Bolton and Undercliffe ward.
