Two men convicted of offences following the M62 gun trial are to be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow.

Mohsin Amin, who was driving the car in which Yassar Yaqub was shot dead by the police, is facing a lengthy prison sentence after the jury found him guilty of conspiracy to possess firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

David Butlin, who was driving in convoy with Amin when the police stopped them at junction 24 near Huddersfield, will be sentenced for possession of a push-dagger as an offensive weapon.

Amin, 32, of Broomer Street, Dewsbury, is in custody. Butlin, 39, of Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth, was granted bail.

Mr Justice Turner warned Butlin, a martial arts coach, that allowing him bail was no indication of what his sentence would be.

During the trial, the jury heard that Mr Yaqub was shot through the windscreen of a white Audi A4 at 6.05pm on January 2 last year.

The jury was told the officer who fired the fatal round saw Mr Yaqub holding a gun and felt that his life was in immediate danger.

A fully loaded and operational Russian Baikal pistol was found under the passenger seat of the Audi. Officers also seized a silencer and a bag of ammunition from the glove compartment.
