A BRADFORD market trader is hosting a series of Christmas events to attract more people to the city’s Oastler Shopping Centre.

Roswitha’s Delicatessen, which has operated in the market on John Street for more than 50 years, is Bradford’s largest and oldest classic European delicatessen.

Günther Giangregorio, owner of Roswitha’s, has teamed up with Les Hall, the former owner of North Parade’s The Sparrow, to hold a series of Christmas at Roswitha’s events.

Customers will be able to enjoy a range of Czech and Latvian beers, Glühwein and Hungarian wines, as well as tucking in to hot smoked Polish sausage sandwiches with various Eastern European accompaniments. A small seated area adjacent to the shop will be available so customers can take a break from their Christmas food shopping.

Günther said: “This shop has thrived for decades thanks to the diverse Bradford population. We really want to celebrate all those cultures and encourage as many people as possible to come into the Oastler Centre to see just what the market, as a whole, has to offer.

“We started out as a Polish deli but we cater for just about every nationality – Italian, German, Ukrainian, Latvian, Hungarian… the list goes on. Christmas is a special family time – my Austrian mother who the shop has been named after for almost 30 years still works here – and we wanted to celebrate with all our customers old and new.”

Les said: “The market is at the heart of city and we want to see more people using and exploring it. I have worked closely with Gunther and Roswitha since we launched The Sparrow eight years ago and this venture is all about making Christmas shopping a bit more enjoyable, offering people the chance to have a bite to eat and drink. We hope to see lots of people dropping in and getting into the festive spirit.”

The Christmas at Roswitha’s events will run from 10am on Saturday December 15th, Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd and Christmas Eve.
