HAVERFORDWEST Town Council will welcome two familiar faces to the chamber following the Portfield election.
Peter Lewis and Roy Thomas, who have both served as town councillors and mayor in the past, will return to Picton House as councillors for Portfield ward.
A total of 657 electors took place in the election on Thursday, December 6, with five candidates standing in total.
The result of the vote was as follows:
1. Roy Thomas (independent candidate): 178 votes
2. Peter Lewis (independent candidate): 171 votes
3. Richard Blacklaw-Jones (independent candidate): 115 votes
4. Anne Elliott (independent candidate): 113 votes
5. Jonathan Twigg (Welsh Conservatives candidate): 79 votes
The two new councillors need to be sworn in and hope to begin their term of service at Haverfordwest Town Council’s next full meeting on Wednesday, December 19.
Roy Thomas.
Roy Thomas thanked everyone who supported his return to the council.
“I am looking forward to taking my place back as a town councillor once more,” he said.
“We will see now what transpires in the coming twelve months. I am hoping to be able to start by the next meeting.”
Mr Thomas stood for election with the aim of addressing concerns about traffic in the town centre, making the council’s workings more transparent and taking a closer look at town council finances.
Peter Lewis.
Peter Lewis’ aims for his return to council include safeguarding the work the authority has done in the past with the racecourse, the town museum and the twinning association.
“These things were carefully built and they should be built upon,” said Mr Lewis.
“No-one is currently questioning the county council about the schools in town and the new buildings in town. These are things I would like the council to show a little more interest in,” he added.
