A man caught making off down the street clutching a big television set told the police: “I stole it from that house over there.”

Faisal Adalat was high on cocaine when he threw a brick through the window of the property in Stamford Street, off Bowling Back Lane, Bradford, on August 9.

Adalat, 24, of Milton Place, Halifax, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for eight months at Bradford Crown Court on Monday.

The court heard that he was caught with the television set, and the remote control in his pocket, when a neighbour raised the alarm at 4am.

When challenged by the police, Adalat immediately pointed out the house he had raided.

Adalat, who was on prison licence at the time, said he heard voices telling him to teach the home owner a lesson.

He was not known to the occupier and had been taking cocaine for five days before committing the burglary, the court was told.

A victim impact statement from the householder said they had been left feeling anxious and insecure and the children no longer felt safe at night.

Adalat’s barrister, Jayne Beckett, said he had a personality disorder and had repeatedly asked for help while on remand in prison.

“He is telling everyone who will listen that he is dangerous,” Mrs Beckett said.

Judge Neil Davey QC urged Adalat to seek help from health professionals when he is released from custody.
