ONE of the country’s biggest trade unions has submitted plans to turn a Bradford city centre building into offices.

Unite the Union hopes to be given the go ahead to convert Sunbridge Chambers, which includes the former Premier Food store on Sunbridge Road from retail to office use, and has submitted a change of use application to Bradford Council.

The shop closed a number of years ago, and is currently used as a temporary art workshop.

The application refers to the building’s ground floor and basement. Its upper floors are already classed as office space.

There are few details in the application, although it shows the ground floor will be converted to a number of meeting rooms and training rooms.

When contacted for more information by the Telegraph & Argus, a Unite spokesman said they were unable to comment on the plans due to “commercial reasons.”

A decision on the application is expected next month.

Unite, the second largest trade union in the UK, has a regional office in Leeds and district offices in Cross Gates, Sheffield, Grimsby, Hull, Middlesbrough and Newcastle.
