A MAN behaved “like the Incredible Hulk” when he smashed his way into his former partner’s house and tried to get into the bedroom where she and others had taken refuge, York Crown Court heard.

Christopher Jenkins was “foaming at the mouth” and screaming “I am going to …. kill you”, said Rachel Landin, prosecuting.

He managed to partially open the bedroom door, despite it being barricaded by a chest of drawers and four people pushing against it from inside.

He had threatened his sister until she had driven him from his new home in Whitby to the Haxby home where his partner was, said Ms Landin

There he smashed the kitchen window with a brick and climbed inside.

His sister told police afterwards: “He was foaming at the mouth. It was like watching the Incredible Hulk.”

Jenkins, 48, now of Poplar Row, Whitby, pleaded guilty to using violence to enter premises.

His barrister Victoria Barker said he had not intended to confront his ex-partner when he went to the house. He had only wanted to see his dogs. But when that was denied him, he lost his temper.

He was given a community order with a three-month nightly curfew from 10am to 7pm and 15 days’ of rehabilitative activities and was ordered to pay £100 compensation to his ex-partner, plus £85 prosecution costs, plus a £85 statutory surcharge.

The court heard he has been under curfew as part of his bail conditions since February.

Ms Landin said Jenkins’ former partner was terrified when she had a phone call at 8.50am warning that he was on his way and locked all the doors.

Jenkins had been angry before he left Whitby and didn’t look at his dogs when they were shown to him through the kitchen window, she said.

“He was clearly only there for the complainant,” she said.

The four people inside the house fled upstairs and phoned police as Jenkins tried to force his way in and finally broke through the window.

Ms Barker said Jenkins was remorseful. He hoped to work as a seaman when his curfew ended.
