SPRINGER spaniels George and Barclay swapped Strangeways for Bradford College recently when they visited students to give an insight into prison work.
The two prison sniffer dogs and their handlers visited Public Services students to demonstrate how they search places and people, including prisoners, staff and visitors at HMP Manchester to sniff out drugs, phones and tobacco.
The handlers also gave an insight into working life in prisons to students.
Conrad Williams, public services tutor, said: “It was wonderful to see the dogs work, freezing when they found the planted drugs and it was fascinating to hear from the prison staff about what their job entails, the challenges and the opportunities.
“Visits from people doing the job in real life have real value to our students. It brings the career to life for them.”
