BRADFORD Council is to be asked what action is being taken to address travellers on park sites across the district.

Councillor Michael Stelling (Independent, Bolton and Undercliffe) has submitted a written question on the issue ahead of full Council tomorrow.

He asked: "What is the Council doing to prevent the disruption of park services by the travelling community who have broken into various park sites recently.

"Is the Council looking at other legal options to put a blanket ban on these areas and other Council property, to aid easier removal such as what Leeds City Council has done?"

Travellers parked up on a number of sites in recent months, including Brackenhill Park, farmland in Cottingley, Peel Park, Harrogate Road playing fields as well as King George V playing fields, off Canal Road.

Bradford Council has previously said that when there is an illegal traveller encampment on Council land, courts are asked for a Possession Order for the site.

When that is served and the travellers have moved on, the site is then cleaned up.

There are two council-run caravan sites for travellers in Bradford at Mary Street, off Bowling Back Lane, and Esholt.
