A FACEBOOK post claiming someone tried to abduct a three-year-old girl in The Broadway shopping centre is not true, according to police.

Officers investigated the events described in the post and say they are entirely false.

The post, which has been widely shared on social media, made up a story about a man who was talking on his mobile phone in "a foreign language" when he tried to take a girl by the hand.

It went on to say the police had told her they "don't know what to do" and added there have been seven attempted abductions in four weeks at the same shopping centre.

Police say none of this information is correct.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "This social media post has been thoroughly investigated and police can confirm that this did not happen.

“We would also like to reassure the public that there have not been any reports of similar incidents at this location in the time specified."
