A BRADFORD man will attempt to break a Guinness World Record in aid of a young boy battling cancer.

Ryan Smith, who now lives in Lagos, Portugal, will attempt to complete 4,545 chest to floor burpees in 12 hours.

He's looking to raise money for 12-year-old Louie Watson, who has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

Ryan, 30, a former rugby player who had stints at Bradford Bulls,Castleford, Dewsbury and Keighley Cougars, now runs a fitness business with his wife Faye.

He's set a target of 4,000 euros for the "amazing, brave and inspirational" youngster and is determined to smash the challenge, which will take place tomorrow from 7am.

Ryan says it will be the "most gruelling" 12 hours of his life.

"My training sessions for the burpees have pushed me to the limits and I’ve been training up to seven hours in some sessions," he said.

"One of the hardest parts has been eating the calories to get through the long sessions."

Today, he will be eating a huge 15,000 calories before embarking on the challenge tomorrow.
