STAFF at the Bradford Royal Infirmary got into the Christmas spirit with a special festive bake-off.

Overseeing proceedings as guest judge was Great British Bake Off finalist Sandy Docherty, who starred in the 2015 series of the show.

Entrants went the extra mile to produce sumptuous treats, which included Christmas tree-shaped cookies, sparkly cupcakes adorned with festive decorations and more.

But Consultant Radiologist, Dr Harry Bardgett, came out on top with his fantastic Yule log creation.

Gemma Boyes, lead pharmacist for surgery and anaesthetics, took the accolade for best Christmas cookies, while staff nurse Lizzie Monaghan was named the winner in the best Christmas cupcakes category.

The tasty treats were sold for donations after the competition, to raise money for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity.

Sandy said: “It’s always a pleasure to come to Bradford Teaching Hospitals. I still do quite a lot of work in the community, but I will always support the NHS.”

Hayley Collis, Head of Fundraising for Bradford Hospitals’ Charity, said: “We were honoured to welcome Sandy back to the Trust to help us celebrate and raise money. She had a tough task deciding on the winners, as all the entries looked and tasted amazing.

"Thank you to everyone who entered the contest and to Sandy for giving up her time.”
