WIBSEY village is gearing up for its Christmas lights switch-on.

Businesses and groups clubbed together to fund a tree, lights and the event itself, which will be held on Friday, December 7, from 4.30pm.

School children have been practising Christmas carols and Bradford singer Bradley Johnson, who has appeared in the 'Let it Shine' television programme, will lead proceedings.

Brass players from Wibsey Salvation Army will accompany mass carol singing and Wibsey Library will host children’s face painting by Bradford Youth Service staff and volunteers from 3.30 pm. Hot drinks and mince pies donated by volunteers will be on offer there after the switch-on .

The Wibsey Events Group is already working towards a bigger Christmas lights display for next year, with a fundraising concert featuring vintage vocalist Kitty LaMare planned for March.

Chair Edna Smith said: "This is only the third year we’ve organised a switch on event and it gets better each time.

"Next year we hope to buy more lights to cover more of the village and we’d love to get more people involved with making this happen through fundraising and donations.”
