DRINKING and driving did not seem to be a problem back in the early 1970s - at least if you were driving a pram!

These likely-looking revellers are taking part in a charity pram race taking in the Horse Close area of Skipton and going on to visit pubs in Embsay and Carleton - competitors had to to drink a half-pint of beer in each. The picture was submitted by Richard O’Rourke, who is on the picture, fourth from the left. Richard, of Windsor Avenue, Skipton, remembers that he his fellow funsters were representing Skipton’s Cock and Bottle pub and that they felt themselves to be very much in the running for the ‘best dressed pram’ prize. The event took place, Richard believes, in either 1972 or 1973.

Also pictured with Richard are his friends Alan Jarvis, fifth from the left, and taking a breather in the pram, Dennis Bell - then known to his chums as ‘Ferret’!
