IN A sign that Yorkshire's water shortage is still serious despite this week's rain, Yorkshire Water has applied for a second set of drought permits.
The Bradford-based company says that due to the threat of a serious water shortage in the South Yorkshire area caused by an exceptional shortage of rain, it has applied for drought permits in the River Don catchment.
The drought permits are intended to apply until March 31 inclusive and propose to reduce the compensation releases from Scout Dyke Reservoir, Underbank Reservoir, Damflask Reservoir and Rivelin Reservoir, and to reduce the maintained flow at Dunford Bridge.
This week's application, dated Thursday, follows an application to pump more water out of the River Wharfe near Addingham last week because of low water levels in its reservoirs in the Dales area.
The permits will aid winter refill and conserve stocks.
