BRADFORD city centre will be lit up in jaw-dropping fashion this weekend, as the Illuminate Bradford festival returns.

The after-dark spectacular will see City Hall transformed into a canvas for dazzling digital projections, and various other attractions around City Park.

Illuminate Bradford starts tomorrow (Friday, November 30) from 5pm, and will run Saturday and Sunday from 4pm.

A special preview event was held tonight to give a small taster of what is to come.

World-leading 3D projection specialists the Colour Project will be making a comeback to the festival, one year after their incredible animations were beamed onto the side of City Hall in an awe-inspiring show.

They have created a new art-piece for 2018, which will be projected each evening onto the historic building.

Audiences will able to go on an magical adventure under the sea, into outer space and through a mysterious fantasy land in the Imaginarium.

The gigantic animated light show will end with a spectacular finale of light and sound.

There will be a live DJ show, combining music, live performance, dance, song, compering, comedy and tragedy in DJ Ukebox. It will combine satire and slapstick alongside a celebration of pop music to keep the audience laughing and dancing in equal measure.

A second projection piece from the Colour Project, eyeSay, will be beamed onto the side of the Impressions Gallery, featuring a collection of words and phrases describing Bradford.

People can also have a go at designing their own buildings with vivid colours in the interactive installation eyeSee.

Mobile cinemas on tricycles will also illuminate the city centre’s streets and buildings with interactive animations.

Alongside all the light shows, there will also be a funfair, craft market and food stalls.

Carl Miller, from the Colour Project, said: “The show will romp through the different genres of movies, as Bradford is the UNESCO City of Film.

“This is our key motivation for moving the story along, involving space, time travel, Westerns and ending with a colourful finale with a wonderful soundtrack.

“We build the content around each individual facet of the building, it’s not simply displaying a film on the building. Every single piece of animation has been custom made to fit each unique piece of the building.

“It took a month to build a digital model of City Hall, and took 12 to 14 weeks to create the whole animation.”

The event starts tomorrow at 5pm, and admission is free.
