CAMPION claimed the outright leadership of Northern Counties East League Division One with a 3-0 win at Ollerton Town’s FastFrame Stadium.

James Bicknell’s side were second on goal difference at the start of the day, but joint leaders Winterton Rangers conceded top spot after losing 2-0 at home to third-placed Grimsby Borough.

Campion took the lead in Nottingham through Leon Hurles-Brook and Aiden Day added before half-time. Their former Albion Sports forward Omar Habeeb made the points safe with a third goal 10 minutes from time.

Campion are now two points clear of Grimsby, who have a game in hand, while Winterton tumble to fourth place.

Premier Division side Albion Sports had a man sent off for a second consecutive game as substitute Eddie Church was dismissed in a 4-1 defeat at Bridlington Town. This came just three days after keeper George Clarke had been dismissed when the Lions were 2-0 up at home to Liversedge in the derby, when Sedge ran out 4-2 winners against the 10 men.

Saturday’s dismissal was just as big of a turning point as the Lions had levelled at 1-1 with Brid. Lamin Janneh scored the equaliser, cancelling out Joe McFadyen’s first-half opener for the Seasiders, but he was forced off with injury.

Church was shown a red card within minutes of coming on when the referee felt he had overreacted after being fouled. The home side rattled in three goals in the last half hour with Nathan Modest bagging a brace and Chris Adams also on target.

Sedge continued their climb away from danger with a 2-1 home win over second-from-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic. Aaron Fell gave the home side the lead with a 53rd-minute penalty and, although the Rail equalised through Fatlam Ibrahim, Tom Jackson netted a penultimate minute winner.

The only club below the Rail in the table is Goole AFC who have a worse goal difference, which was not helped as Thackley won 5-1 at the Victoria Pleasure Ground.

Luke Robinson opened the scoring early for the Dennyboys and Dan Broadbent added soon after. The Vikings pulled a goal back through Jordan Emery but Jordan Hendrie restored the visitors’ two-goal cushion in the 36th minute.

Matt Broadley increased Thackley’s lead before Hendrie bagged his brace in the last minute.

Eccleshill United frustrated Wayne Benn’s title-chasing Hemsworth MW by holding them to a 1-1 draw at the Mitton Group Stadium.

After a goalless first half, the Wells broke the deadlock seven minutes after the interval through Nash Connolly but the Eagles earned a point when Jassim Alali netted a late equaliser.
