A PRIMARY school in Birstall has retained its ‘Good’ Ofsted rating following a recent inspection.

Birstall Primary Academy, in Chapel Lane, was praised by inspectors for its “positive and inclusive learning environment”.

Ofsted said: “Pupils are enthusiastic about their learning and their school.

“Successful relationships established across the school ensure that pupils feel safe, well cared for and want to do their best.

“Safeguarding is effective because leaders have made sure that everyone has an excellent understanding of how to keep pupils safe.

“Children get a warm welcome to school life in the early years. Their emotional, social and academic needs are well catered for.

“In their ambition to give pupils a well-rounded education, leaders provide exciting opportunities for learning across a wide curriculum.”

To become an Outstanding school, inspectors told the school to develop the knowledge of subject leaders, provide more opportunities for children to deepen their knowledge in maths, and improve teaching of reading.
