City Hall lit up green in support of NSPCC Christmas campaign

This year's campaign focuses on child neglect, as the NSPCC said one in ten children in the UK have suffered neglect.

The charity wants to shine a light on the issue, which often goes unnoticed leaving children feeling unloved and alone.

It said neglect is the most common form of child abuse, and nearly a third of all calls to its helpline last year related to neglect.

To support the campaign, the charity is selling pin badges and bracelets to help fund its helpline and support victims of child abuse.

Elaine Kaye, community fundraising manager for Yorkshire, said: “It is fabulous that the City Hall will be lighting up green and I am sure it will be a real beacon for our fantastic fundraisers.

"I also hope it will shine a light of hope for all those children facing neglect at Christmas and indeed all year round.

Councillor Adrian Farley, executive member for children and families, said: “We are really pleased to be able to support this campaign and hope that it helps highlight an important issue at this time of year.”

City Hall will also be lit up green tonight in support of the campaign.
