TWO fish and chip restaurants in the area have been awards the coveted Sustainable Fish Certificate from the Marine Stewardship Council.
The Wetherby Whaler restaurants in Guiseley and Pudsey were handed the label for its haddock, which has been fished sustainably, and can be traced back to the fishermen and women who caught it.
The Whaler applied for the certification through the National Federation of Fish Friers.
Director Caroline Murphy said: “We are proud to show our customers that we support and promote sustainability and traceability of the haddock that we serve.
“It is important that we help to protect the fish in our oceans to ensure our nation’s favourite dish is served to future generations.”
Loren Hiller, commercial officer at the MSC, added: “The Wetherby Whaler are leaders in the industry who clearly care about great quality sustainably sourced fish for their customers.
“Using the blue fish label is a great way to demonstrate their sustainability credentials.”
