HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to a Bradford police officer who was killed on duty 13 years ago today.
Police were called at 3.25pm to the travel agents in Morley Street, where PC Sharon Beshenivsky was shot and fatally wounded during a robbery on November 18, 2005.
Three men – Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, Mustaf Jama and his younger brother Yusuf Jama – were all given minimum 35-year jail sentences for her murder.
Floral tributes were today left at the city centre memorial by her colleagues.
Brian Booth, Chair of the West Yorkshire Police Federation, wrote: "It’s been an honour to lay a wreath today for our fallen colleague PC Sharon Beshenivsky. You will never be forgotten."
Many in the police force have paid poignant tributes.
"13 years ago today, we sadly lost one of our own, Sharon Beshenivsky. Thoughts are with her family at this time and to all those who were involved on the day. Always in our hearts," said Hishaam Mohammed.
Superintendent Alisa Newman, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "13 years ago Police Constable Sharon Beshenivsky had her life taken doing a job she loved and was so proud to do.
"She will always be remembered and her memory honoured by every officer in the country. She was every one of us."
While Bradford Council tweeted: "Our thoughts are with Sharon’s family, friends and colleagues."
Today was difficult, together with colleagues inc Theresa Milburn @WYP_AlisaNewman we laid flowers & paid respect, having a few mins to ponder our thoughts & to say, she’ll always be in our hearts.
