DONATIONS have been flying in to help add some Christmas spirit to Wyke.

The 'Light up Wyke' campaign was set up by the Wyke Village Residents Association, which says the response has been "overwhelming".

A Go Fund Me page has helped to raise more than £900 and an Autumn Fair was also held to boost funds.

Chair David Guthrie and Vice Chair Beverley Shutak said: "The generosity of the residents and businesses of Wyke has been astonishing, we have had additional donations handed to us and we will be able to light up the park, village green and the main road through the village, Towngate.

"All we need now is a Christmas tree, so if any businesses can donate one that would be fantastic."

The group now boasts more than 1,000 members on its Facebook page and says volunteers are coming forward with suggestions on how to improve the area, creating a 'real village feel'.

Any surplus money will be used for additional projects in the community, if not used at Christmas.

You can also take donations into the Il Tartuffo restaurant, Towngate, and they will pass it on to the committee.
