A PLOT of land next to Heckmondwike Cemetery, which had been mooted for a new housing development over the past decade, will go under the hammer next month.

Plans to build houses on the land at Forrest Hall, off Longfield Road, date back over 10 years.

In 2011 a planning application to build 11 houses on the 1.45 acre site was refused by Kirklees Council, but that decision was later overturned by a government inspector on appeal.

The planning permission for houses has since expired without the houses being built.

The land, to the East of the town’s cemetery, used to be the gardens of Forrest Hall, a home that was badly fire damaged in 2012.

The site is one of many that has been listed as one of the lots at the next property auction by Pugh, which is being held at Leeds United’s ground on December 4.

The lot has a guide price of £100,000.
