THE community in Oakenshaw commemorated the loss of 46 men from the village in the First World War on Remembrance Sunday.
The village history group compiled a history of where the men lived, where they were killed and where they are buried and put a display on at St Andrew's Church leading up to Sunday.
On Friday, the children from the local school paid their own tributes, including tying red ribbons onto the church gates and also hand-painting cobbles with their own decorations which were placed in the peace garden in the village.
The playgroup also made their own poppies which went on display in the church.
The village got together for the two-minutes' silence at Victoria Park War Memorial and the wreath laying with local dignitaries and the local riding school who represented the contribution of animals.
