BRADFORD schoolchilden have been marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One with special events and displays of poppy artwork.

On Friday, 450 children from All Saints Church of England Primary School in Little Horton gathered to mark 100 years since the end of the Great War.

Two children recited the poem In Flanders Field, the children sang a specially-composed song Remember, and observed a one minute's silence. Derek Jones, Curate of the Parish of All Saints, Little Horton finished the ceremony with a prayer.

In the days running up to the ceremony, children had learnt about the Great War, wrote prayers and poems, and made hand-crafted poppies to decorate the school.

John Davie, head teacher, said: "The children responded thoughtfully and respectfully to the remembrance ceremony.

"Our children's families come from all round the world but the desire for peace and respect for those who have fought for our freedom is something that every child at All Saints feels is important. Our church's curate Derek Jones was extremely impressed by how the children responded."

At Thornbury Leadership Academy in Bradford, students have been learning about World War One and creating artwork to mark the event.
