SCHOOL children went on parade yesterday as part of their school’s commemoration of Remembrance Day.

Pupils from Wilsden Primary School dressed in period costume from the tow world wars to process down to the village war memorial.

The children then listened to a reading of First World War poem Flanders Fields before placing Poppy wreaths around the memorial and then hearing the Last Post.

Following the service, the children marched back down to school where the remembrance events continued for the remainder of the day.

The events saw the school, local businesses and community come together to commemorate the centenary of the First World War and raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

Throughout the day a range of rare and accurate military equipment including Jeeps, tanks and firearms from both the Allied and German forces will be on showcase at the school, giving the children the opportunity to learn about the war from both perspectives.

A poppy waterfall has been constructed at the school and the primary has encouraged the community to get involved by dressing up, lining the streets to watch the parade and dressing their windows to reflect the theme of remembrance.
