A NEW website has been launched to remember the men of Gomersal who lost their lives fighting for their country.
In 2013, the Little Gomersal Community Association (LGCA) took the lead on a project to mark the centenary of World War One using a grant obtained from the Community Development Fund.
A group was set up to carry out research into the 70 men from the Gomersal area who lost their lives in the conflict and also focused on how daily life in Gomersal was affected by the war in Europe.
The project resulted in the production of a highly professional touring exhibition which consisted of 11 panels and which visited Gomersal Moravian Church, St Marys Church, Gomersal Methodist Church, Grove Church and local primary schools.
Consideration was also given to how the project might ultimately create a ‘lasting legacy’ to those who served their country so bravely and sadly did not return home and the LGCA decided on a digital version of the 11 original panels.
The work has now completed and the stories of Gomersal & The Great War can be found at https://www.littlegomersal.co.uk/gomersal-great-war.
