AN INNOVATIVE movement which champions creative communities will make its mark on Bradford this week.

Glug, which has chapters in London, San Francisco and Berlin, is a series of informal design and creative talks over a few beers dubbed “Notworking™".

The inaugural Bradford event will see speakers chat about food, drink, creativity and 'Bradfordness'.

Glug Bradford will be co-hosted by David Craig, Director of Assembly Bradford, a co-working and event space on North Parade, and Martyn Johnston, General Manager of recently established cooperative café and creative workspace Bread + Roses, also based on North Parade.

The event will kick off at Bread + Roses, where people will be able to build their own Samosa Chaat. The action will then continue two doors down at Assembly Bradford, where there will be an opportunity to buy beer from Shipley-based The Triangle and hear from different speakers.

Dan Logan, from EYES Brewing, which has taken on the former Bradford Brewery building on Rawson Road, will talk about why the brewery is choosing to make the city its new home.

Keith Wildman from North Parade's Record Cafe will share stories from the first four years of business in Bradford, while Drew Millward, internationally-renowned local illustrator, will chat about his craft.

Mr Craig said: "Why did we want to bring Glug to Bradford? I think it probably started last year when Martyn and other Bradfordians spoke at Glug in Leeds and we thought it was about time Bradford had its own event.

"Bread + Roses and Assembly Bradford are two emerging spaces at the 'top end of town' where creatives, freelancers and homeworkers can escape their kitchen table, meet like-minded folk, and get work done."

He added: "The venues decided to collaborate as a way of showcasing what our spaces have to offer and hopefully attract a wider community of interesting people together, over some food, drink, chat, and talks."

Mr Craig said he hoped it would be the first of many events and encouraged people to keep their eyes peeled for an "interesting and diverse" line-up for next year.

Tickets for the event, which will take place between 5pm and 9pm this Thursday, November 8, cost £6.50.

They can be purchased via Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/glug-bradford-1-tickets-51549606260.
