A PANEL of Councillors have refused plans for a new takeaway in Keighley for a range of different reasons.
One of the main issues that led to the proposal being thrown out was the fact that the new business, which would have been set up at 122 - 124 Lawkholme Lane, was within 400 metres of a school, park and leisure centre. Bradford Council policy prevents takeaways from opening near to facilities likely to be used by children, unless they are in a city or town centre.
The decision to refuse the application, which had been submitted by J Hussain, was made by the Council's Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel, meeting in Keighley Town Hall yesterday.
Officers told members of the panel that the proposed new business would be within 400 metres of Eastwood Primary School, Victoria Park, Cliffe Castle Park and Keighley Leisure Centre.
Other reasons for refusing the application included a lack of parking for the new business, the increase in noise and activity it would create in a residential area, inadequate waste storage facilities and an "unsympathetic" proposed extraction flue.
The building is a former clothes shop.
