A SHAKE up of parking permit schemes in Bradford would require more community support to trigger the introduction of residents’ parking zones.

On Tuesday Bradford Council’s Executive will discuss plans to update the current on street permit scheme in the district.

Currently there is no minimum level of support needed to trigger a Council investigation into whether resident’s parking schemes are needed in an area, meaning officers would have to investigate if just one person makes a call for their street to be residents’ parking only.

The changes would require a minimum of 10 households, or 25 per cent of a street, to call for permits before the Council begins work to see if they are needed.

The council says the changes would help save money by eliminating the number of surveys into proposed schemes that are unlikely to ever go ahead.

Currently 8,000 residents, visitors and business are issued permits every two years.

Another change would require at least 75 per cent of the road to reply to a questionnaire to determine how many car owners live in that area.

The survey would also have to find that at least 30 per cent of vehicles parked on a street on a regular basis did not belong to residents.

The Executive meets at 10.30am on Tuesday in City Hall.
