AROUND 750 entrants took part in this year’s Bradford City Runs event consisting of a half marathon, 5k, 10k and children’s race in glorious sunshine this morning.
The event had been organised by race director Mark Hetherington, of Even Splits and consisted of one, two and four circuits around the city centre, plus a mile-long circuit for the children’s race.
This year the event is supporting Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit at the University of Bradford, which was founded by Professor David Sharpe following the Bradford City stadium fire on May 11, 1985.
Taking part in the 5k race this year was Idle and Thackley Lib Dem councillor Cllr Alun Griffiths.
The councillor who is also a GP said: “I’ve done the 10k twice here, the half marathon and the 5k and this year I just wanted to do the 5k for my own pleasure.”.
Mr Hetherington said there were fewer entrants that at last year’s gathering but the atmosphere was still very good and the weather was perfect.
The races were set off by Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Zafar Ali.
