GUIDED walks are being offered this autumn and winter in the Haworth, Bingley, Ilkley and Silsden areas.

Bradford Council Countryside Service is organising around two walks each week in the district led by volunteers.

Members of the public are invited to join the experienced walkers for both gentle strolls and challenging hikes.

Next up is a five-mile circular walk to the moor to see the Twelve Apostles stone circle on Sunday, October 28.

Walkers should meet Ken J Allen at 11am at White Wells car park, Wells Road, Ilkley.

There’s No Such Thing As Ghosts is the title of a gentle walk around various Bingley Haunts, on a five-mile route on Wednesday, October 31. Meet Colin Pitts at 11am at Bingley Arts Centre.

The promise of a walk above the Worth Valley to Virginia is made by walks leader David Anderson for November 7.

Meet David at 10.30am on the church steps at the top of Haworth Main Street for a circular walk with several ups and downs.

Villages Along the Aire Valley are the targets for a seven-mile circular walk on November 11. Meet Jeff Brodrick at 10.30am at Bingley railway station.

On November 14, just three days after Remembrance Day, walkers will be Remembering the Polish Airmen as they walk seven miles across the Aire Valley and back.

Meet Colin Pitts at 10.30am at Wesley Place pay and display car park, Silsden, for a walk to Jubilee Tower above Steeton before descending to the site of a crashed Second World War Wellington bomber.

Walkers are warned to expect rough steep sections.

November 17 is the date for A Worthy Walk, a linear hike of 5.5 miles led by Barbara Walker and based on one of Bradford Council’s downloadable ‘web walks’.

Meet Barbara at 10.30am at Oxenhope railway station for a trek along the Worth Way on the north side of the valley, returning from Keighley by bus or train on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

The walk on November 20 will take participants from Baildon to Saltaire on a four-mile circular route.

Meet Eddie Nash at 10.30am on Shipley Glen opposite Bracken Hall Countryside Centre, for an urban walk taking in woodland, river and open land with excellent views over Saltaire village.

Bierley Hall and its Surrounds will be explored on November 25 during a 4.5-mile circular walk within industrial areas, an old railway, and fishing ponds that belonged to the hall.

Meet Nigel at 1.30pm at Wharfedale Road near the junction of Rockwell Road, Euroway Trading Estate, Bradford, BD4 6SG.

Five Farms is the title of a six-mile linear walk on November 28.

Meet Malcolm Gardner at 11am at Burley-in-Wharfedale station, to walk to Guiseley station then return by train.

Aire Sculpture Trail and Beyond will take walkers for an interesting seven-mile journey along the River Aire, returning via the disused railway track at Thackley.

Meet Paul Mawson on December 5 at 10.30am at Hirst Wood Car Park, Hirst Lane, Saltaire, next to the canal.

Candlemass Eve is celebrated on December 8 with a 5.5-mile circular journey, the traditional stroll to Oxenhope and back in time for carols round the tree.

Meet David Anderson at 10.30am on the church steps at the top of Haworth Main Street.

December 12 will offer walkers a Surprise Along the Way as they journey towards Hawksworth village via Tong Park.

Meet Gillian Dale and David Anderson at 10.30am in Esholt village car park, Station Road, for the 4.5-mile circular walk.

A family walk with lots of interest and spectacular views on a clear day will be offered on December 16 on a walk entitled Tong Park Dam.

The 4.25-mile circular route begins at the bottom of Victoria Road, Saltaire, where walkers should meet Barbara Walker at 10.30am.

The traditional Boxing Day walk on December 26 will take people from the steps of Haworth Parish Church, Main Street, to the Bronte Falls.

Meet Barbara Walker and Phil Hatton at 11am on the steps for the five-mile family walk with treats after lunch. There is one steep hill.

The Funny Hat and Wig Walk on January 1 follows a circular 4.5-mile circular route taking in a viaduct, aqueduct, river, canal and the famous Five Rise Locks.

Families should meet Barbara Walker and Gillian Dale at 12.30pm outside Bingley Arts Centre to start 2019 off in style.

Tour de Cullingworth as the title of a six-mile circular walk on January 9 circumnavigating the village on field paths and tracks in the vicinity of the now-dismantled railway line from Thornton to Bradford.

Meet Barbara Walker at 10.30am at Cullingworth War Memorial.

January 16 will offer a walk from Apperley Bridge to Rodley and back on a six-mile circular route taking in both the canal bank and riverside.

Meet Edgar Bielby at 10.30am in the car park at Apperley Bridge near Woodhouse Grove School come on the A658 Harrogate Road.

Lund’s Tower above Sutton will be the destination of a seven-mile circular walk on January 20, which involves a ramble along the beck, a climb up to the tower, and an easy return.

Meet Ken Allen Senior at 10.30am at the Post Box, Eastburn, on the main road.

Ilkley Flyer is the title of a January 23 walk on an 8.5-mile linear route, led by Howard Lloyd and setting off at 11am outside the Red Lion in the centre of Burley in Wharfedale.

Walkers can enjoy a visit to the village which was home for many years to the famous Dales writer A J Brown before striding out over the moor and finishing this walk with a descent into the picturesque town of Ilkley.

Also coming up in winter are walks to Norr Hill, Fulneck, Cullingworth, Riddlesden, Brunthwaite, Silsden, Denholme, Baildon, Shipley Glen, Keighley Moor, Laycock and Newsholme Dean.
