BLACK History Month which is being celebrated during October in Bradford is coming to a close with an exhibition of outstanding artwork at the Delius Arts and Cultural Centre.

Organised through MOBE, the Marshfield, Osdal and Bankfoot Enterprise, together with Artworks Creative Communities, work by around 12 black artists from Bradford using a variety of styles, colour and techniques will be on show this weekend, covering paintings, sculptures and textile work.

Some of the artists will be on hand to speak about their art.

Lincoln Anderson who has been involved in getting the exhibition together said: "We have managed to gather a body of work that is truly exciting and diverse.

"The quiet dignity and power of the late, great Lancelot Bryan’s wood carvings standing alongside the intricate delicacy of Vashti Lee’s quilts demonstrates the range of talent and skills on show. "Emerging and established artists exhibit side by side, presenting painting, photography and sculptures. There really is something for everybody."

The exhibition opens at 4pm on Friday, October 26 at the Delius Centre, in Great Horton Road, and there will be a reception from 6pm to 8pm with the Lord mayor in attendance.

"Refreshments will be available and the first lucky arrivals will be presented with a signed copy of Dr Berrisford Lewis’s ‘Instant Success in Business – Windrush and the Next Generation’, an inspiring and insightful MOBE publication, drawing on the experiences of business owners in Bradford from the African Caribbean community.

The exhibition continues on Saturday, October 27, from 12 noon until 4pm.

Mr Anderson added: "We wanted to build on the positive response to the exhibition in the City Hall during the Windrush celebrations in June.

"We are really pleased to have artists’ work on show. It is a great snapshot of the wealth of talent we have in this city."

Deb Collett of Artworks Creative Communities said: "We are thrilled to host and support this exhibition. The range of work is astounding, and the setting really suits such a mixed media approach."
