AN investigation is being carried out into a dramatic crash in which a bus ploughed through the front of an opticians. 

It happened in Shipley town centre yesterday afternoon when a Yorkshire Tiger bus, coming from Market Square, careered through the front of Shipley Eyewear Opticians on Kirkgate.

A taxi was also involved, with pictures from the scene showing a Volkswagen Passat wedged at the side of the bus.

Firefighters had to carefully winch the bus from the front of the building. 

Nazmin Aktar, who works at the opticians, spoke of her miraculous escape. She had locked up and left the shop just five minutes before the chaotic scenes unfolded.

Photographs taken today show the front of the opticians boarded up, with metal railings up around the adjacent store. 

Matthew Ashton, managing director for Yorkshire Tiger said: “We are currently carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident and are liaising with the relevant authorities.”

A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “One of our Senior Building Control Surveyor’s attended the incident yesterday morning following a request from the emergency services.

"This was to assess any immediate damage to the structure of the building during and after the removal of the bus and how this may impact on public safety.

"The building owners and their insurers will be undertaking a detailed assessment and carry out repairs as required.”
