A MAN who was attacked by his jealous partner accepted he had gone too far in restraining her.

Blackburn magistrates heard Aaron Paul Cooper grabbed his partner by the throat and when she tried to leave the house dragged her back by the arms.

Cooper, 37, of Blackburn Road, Oswaldtwistle, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 10 days rehabilitation activity requirement and 40 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £50 compensation £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said on September 17 Cooper had been telling his partner about a job interview he had that day.

He said the female he had spoken to on the phone had sounded nice.

"She didn't like what he was saying and she struck him," said Miss Allan.

"During the struggle that followed he grabbed her by the throat, dragged her back into the house by her arms and also pushed her off the bed, causing her to collide with a wardrobe."

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said there was an element of provocation.

"He accepts he should have shown more restraint and has gone too far," said Mr Taylor.
