MORE than a century of experience has left a primary school after three members of staff retired.

Caretaker Stephen Albrow and his wife Lorraine, who was a cleaner, had both worked at St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School in Allerton, for more than 40 years before heading into retirement yesterday.

Business manager Eileen Naylor also retired after 25 years service.

A special mass was held for Mrs Naylor and the couple, who will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary next year, with former teachers and nuns coming back to say goodbye to the pair.

A leaver’s mass with held with children yesterday, where they were presented with gifts and a display documenting their time at the school was also shown.

Sarah Weston, the couple’s daughter, said her father, 70, and mother, 67, are not planning anything extravagant now they have retired.

She said: “”It has been a big part of their life, they started when I was four so it’s all I’ve ever known.

“The presentation at the assembly was lovely.”
