A CONSULTANT orthodontist at St Luke’s Hospital is limbering up to take part in the world famous New York City Marathon.

Simon Littlewood, who has worked for the NHS in Bradford for 17 years and is the clinical speciality lead for orthodontics at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is hoping to raise over £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Simon has previously run two other marathons - London in 2004 and Berlin in 2012 - but admits that training for the New York Marathon has been the toughest yet.

“I’m a bit older than I was for the previous marathons, and like everyone working in the NHS, the job is a bit busier, so making time for the training has been a challenge, but I am sure it will be worth it,” he said.

“I jumped at the chance to run the marathon for this wonderful charity. It’s a sad reality that almost all of us will be touched by cancer at some time in our lives, and working in the hospital I am well aware of the fantastic work that Macmillan Cancer Support do.

The marathon takes place on November 3. Donations can be made to Simon’s fundraising website at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/simon-littlewood
